Sorry I didn't post yesterday, but I was concerned about missing oral duscussion because I was concentrating on mastering this new skill, which is something I do more easily in quiet.

Remember to start at the bottom and read UP :)

Looking forward to reviewing the backwall and digesting our meeting.
That would be awesome! We have the talent in our ranks!
Yes!! to a German immersion program.

aha! I can do 10% backward seminar on Fridays...that makes sense to me without a lot of stress!

For those who haven't...look into Understanding by Design

That will begin to create pockets within the district that hopefully would spread and gain interest.

Those who are "ready" need to start doing the things we have been talking about...goal setting and linguafolio

I have a few ideas about why we don't have immersion but they are many.

How do we help languages get out of the box?

What "boxes" are we still in with our thinking?

What "boxes" are we still in with our thinking?

www.scteachervillage.com/ how do you guys feel about this site?

Despite the mass-appeal of facebook. I still feel disconnected from the rest of my colleagues (i miss you guys :( What am I doing wrong?

Why don't we have German immersion....will we ever have it?

What evidence can I share with my students to convince them of the value of self-directed learning?

What tests are you thinking of?

will standardized tests be a good measure of my students' learning with this program? How would one ward off the skeptics if not?

I would love layout ideas also.

is there a way I could change the layout of my classroom to be more conducive to this new approach?

Eventually, we will have results to show others to bring them on board.

they can be scared at first....but we are not forcing anything on them

introducing an idea like this is a skill in and of itself. we're liable to scare the beejezus out of people

by allowing them to explore their interests in the subject matter

could be making better use of the student's time

This is a good idea...in my experience that block is only being used to help the lower 15 students while the rest read or do homework....we

could the intervention block be used to continue to see students that we would normally not see for a semester?

At the middle school level, couldn't we use the "intervention block" to dialog with these students?

Ben---you have any ideas?? I would LOVE ideas on this!

What kind of system can we set up to evaluate the effectiveness of the program and then have a process to reflect and adjust (quickly)?

I would like to have immersion available for all grades.

Students must identify goals before the break for when they come back.

Aha moment -- be ready to document growth that occurs. Block scheduling - not just trying to revive.

I have 21 invites to Google Wave. Post your email addy if you want

Policy wish list: allowing students to place in language classes based on score (maybe STAMP test?)

Policy wish list: allowing students to place in language classes based on score (maybe STAMP test?)

I agree Jamee...I want to be able to do that!

We would benefit from training about levels of proficiency so we can all be on the same page & communicate the same info

How do we keep ourselves going, and excited as our other responsibilities try to take over our attention?

Need to be sure we have a really flexible system so it can adapt to new technology as it develops

LinguaFolio, Jr.! This looks like something we should be using at the PIP sites!

Consider "blind scoring" of assessments across the district

What about a "language guide" who could help any learner in the district?

Example, skip 2, and get credit for 2 if they successfully complete level 3?

Would it be possible to offer retro-active credit, like college, for a student who successfully skips a level, if they have the ability?

Just seeing if I can get in..

That doesn't change personal opinion.

I would love to use Facebook and other networking sites with my students. Again, how can I do this if admin is against it?

Dawn, how do we know when we have been accepted? It still says that my request has been sent to you to be accepted.

Please view the pages on the wiki and post relevant comments on the designated page as well.

It is a bit funny that we are all multitasking but we are not allowed to let our students do this due to technology restrictions.

Please post links under the "links" page on the wiki :)

What is the next logical step?

We have to teach our kids responsible use of tech and foster TRUST with the community/parents

Stephanie--I can't read the rest of your comment

We are finding the in the immerison programs there isn't something in place to help students who aren't making progress in the L2. What's t

My big problem is how to manage the data--what next logical step to take

true. There is no NOELLA for German

NOELLA doesn't assess all languages.

I struggle with FLES assessment that is appropriate and assesses language production vs. language comprehension and discreet point.

the big question is what do you do once you get the data?

What kinds of interventions will be put in place to help students who aren't making progress in L2? Who will provide the interventions?

there are nationally normed online assessments, (NOELLA), interview approaches (SOPA) and of course, teacher created assessments

there are loads of assessments appropriate for assessing elementary level language learning

How will we measure and monitor L2 proficiency--especially at the elementary level?

How will the documentation look? Will we, as a district, create a "checklist" for each level and language to keep us equally accountable?

I know I have failed to create trust lately, especially for my 6th graders because there are so many. But, that can't be an excuse!

Including students in the learning community

I have the David and Goliath article with me if anyone wants to read or copy.

We're making history!

I'm ready. Where do we start?

I agree that standards based instruction limits those at the top if a teacher only teaches grade level standards. However, I have witnessed

You have to copy the address and paste it into your browser in order to pull it up

It doesn't work because only the top line of the address is linked

Can we post live weblinks here? For example, here is a cute clip of singing penguins. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DqlvvKZIbCM

Dawn, how much freedom will we have to actually start doing this in our classrooms?

I loved the selection from le Petit Prince yesterday. What a way to end on a high note.

Is this scary, or what??
